This story takes place in the world of Eladar. It is a fantastical world with many different creatures and magics, though our story will focus on a town called Dawsbury. Dawsbury is run by a duke. This duke has sent for you. Why you? Well, because you are a monster hunter and a fairly famous one at that. Everyone remembers when you lead a small group of farmers against a werewolf attack. And don't even get me started on when you had fought for 4 days and 4 nights without any rest to slay a great wyrm. These famous hunts of yours attracted the duke's attention. He offered to pay you genrously for your services, however, he did not tell you what you will be hunting. You accpeted the offer and [[ventured to Dawsbury.|castle]]You arrive at the city of Dawsbury. It is around noon. Thes streets are pretty empty. You notice most of the people are in their fields farming, however, it appears the market place is open and is still pretty crowded. You have recieved instructions from the duke on how to get to pretty much anywhere of note. Do you:
[[Go straight to the duke?|duke1]]
[[Go to the marketplace?|market]]
[[Go to an inn?|inn]]
You follow the duke's instructions and arrive at his estate. It is a large stone house. The building appears to tower over any other residential building in the entire town. There is a stable filled with horses owned by the duke. Do you:
[[Enter the estate?|estate]]
[[Attempt to go to the stables?|stablelocked]]After browsing through the various stalls, you decide to check your coinpurse for money. You reach for it but only grab air. You see the rope connecting it to your belt is severed. It most have been stolen! Now, the only thing to do is to go to the [[duke.|duke1]]You pass thtough the market and reach the inn. You reach for your coinpurse to get money for something to eat, when you discover it is missing. The rope holding it to your belt has been severed! It must have been stolen! Now the only thing to do is to go to the [[duke.|duke1]]You stroll up the the estate, but before you can greet the guard at the door, he immediately recognises you. "You are the monster hunter athat the duke hired! [[Come quickly!|crimescene]]
[[Or don't.|plead]]At the entrance to stable, you are greeted by a guard. You ask about seeing the horses. He replies, "Sorry, these horses are too valuable to let anyone enter the stables without direct permission from the duke."
Do you:
[[Attempt to force your way in?|arrest]]
[[Return to the estate?|duke1]]
As you attempt to muscle your way past the guard, he pulls out a whistle and blows it. You struggle with the guard as he attempts to restrain you. As the struggle, continues you hear the heavy thud of metal boots the guards wear stomping from everywhere. The guard's reinforcements have arrived. As a group, they manage to restrain you. They clap your wrists in iron clamps connected by chains and promptl escort you to the jail.
[[Game Over.|restart]]You have lost! [[Click here to restart.|start]]You rush through the estate with the guard. You see a proud looking man in the distance that you assume to be the duke. As you get closer, you realize they are standing over a body. Based on the clothing you believe this to be one of the kings courtiers. You make quick greetings with the duke and ask the identity of the corpse. "His name was Derrick. He was my steward and he took care of the accounting for Dawsbury." says the duke. "This death happened a few hours ago. Normally healthy people dying with seemingly no cause of death. A few simply disappear. Derrick makes 13 claimed by this entity. We don't know what is causing these deaths, we had hired an adept mage to check the bodies and town for signs of evil magic, but nothing was found out of the ordinary, so we decided to hire you to check for the signs of monsters." The duke thanks you for coming and makes his leave to do his daily duties. You better get started on figuring out what [[happened.]]The guard realizes you're not coming with him. "Ser, there is an emergency. The duke needs you! Please, [[come along.|crimescene]]
[[Or don't|plead]]You look down at the body. There are slight signs of a struggle, bruises around the wrist, but small bruises aren't enough to kill someone. Your mind runs through the possible monsters that can do something like this. There are too many to decide going off of just what you see. Do you:
[[Ask to see Derrick's room?|room]]
[[Ask for the body to be autopsied?|autopsy]]A nearby guard leads you to his room. Where do you check:
[[The ceiling?|ceiling]]
[[The bed?|bed]]
[[The windows?|window]]
You tell the guard that you are done looking at the body. You ask him to request the duke to have it autopsied while you look for the monster. You know this will take a while to start so you still have time to [[check Derrick's room.|room]]You look up at the ceiling. You can see traces of slime on the rafters. You know of a few monsters that produce this purple slime but you still don't have anything definite. What do you check next?
[[The windows?|suprise]]
[[Or the bed?|suprise]]You walk up to the bed. You can see traces of slime on the sheets. You know of a few monsters that produce this purple slime but you still don't have anything definite. What do you check next?
[[The windows?|suprise]]
[[Or the ceiling?|suprise]]You walk across the room. You can see traces of slime on the frame. You know of a few monsters that produce this purple slime but you still don't have anything definite. What do you check next?
[[The ceiling?|suprise]]
[[Or the bed?|suprise]]Suddenly, the guard that brought you in suddenly screams. You turn and see that instead of a human face, it has completely changed into a almagamation of a human and a squid. It has long tentacles coming out of its face. The nearly touch the floor. You hear a voice in your head. "The time has come for you hunter!" It lunges at you! Do you [[draw your sword and fight]] or [[run away.]]As the creatures rushes towards you, you manage to cleanly cut it's tentacle off in the same smooth motion you used to draw the sword. It is sent reeling. You move in to finish the creature but it manages to through itself out the window before you can. Time to see the [[duke.|missionstart]]As you try to run, you realize your back is against the wall. There is nowhere to go. The creature grapples you and begins to use its long tentacles to devour your brain.
You have died! [[Game over.|restart]]You rush toward the duke's throne. You burst in to the main hall. The courtiers surrounding the duke go silent. You sprint up to the duke to tell him that you've figured out the murders. You explain that an Illithid had done it. Illithids are humanoid monster who have psiconic abilities such as telepathy. The are usually purple with long tentacles drooping from their octopus-like face. They make new Illithids by taking over a host brain with a parasitic worm connection the new Illithid to the elder brain, taking all of its free will, and turning the host into the new Illithid. They use these tentacles to devour their victims brains. They form colonies that are run by an elder brain. They work similar to ants with all of them answering to the elder brain and doing its commands unquestionable. Where there is one Illithid there is usually at least a couple more. judging by when the murders started, the elderbrain should still be young. You know how to track these beasts so you gather a dozen guards and start tracing the trail of blood left by the wounded [[Illithid.]]You arrive to where the colony is. A glance into the hole shows nothing but pitch darkness. You drop into the whole with the guards quickly behind. You light up the darkness with a lantern and the guards around you follow suit. You begin to hear their telepathic taunts. "You can't even see us." "Just give yourself up to the elder brain." "You'd make a great servant to or colony." You ignore them and push forwards. You notice that a guard has gone missing. he must have been picked off when no one could see him. [[Tell everyone to stay together?]] Or [[tell everyone to split up?]]You have won! You completed the game! You may [[replay|start]] if you wish to.You guys walk back to back through the darkness with your backs together. You scour the colony until you stumble onto a large brain in a pool of slimly purple liquid. It's the elder brain. You throw your lantern onto the brain, splatering the oil all over the brain. With a quick strike of your flintbox, you set the brain aflame. The reamaining Illithids will scatter without the guidance of the brain. [[You have won!|gg]] Everyone splits up. This turns out to be a very bad idea. The group continues to be picked off one by one. [[Everyone has died before even reaching the brain.|restart]]
